Paper Shoot Review By A Professional
Amidst the spectacle of my buddy’s wedding, I noticed the photographer putting down her hefty Canon and whipping this tiny contraption out of her front pocket to grab a shot or two. During the reception, I asked what it was and she unveiled the enigma that is the The Perfect Little Pocket Camera, the Paper Shoot Camera.
As a lensman myself, I always found myself wanting to carry a camera while on runs, hanging out with family and friends, feeding the chickens, and pretty much everywhere I went. The Nikon’s are too colossal to run with as well as too in your face to grab sneaky candid shots and phones, don’t get me started on those wretched phone cameras. I wanted something that I could pull out of my pocket and take a quick shot without anyone knowing. Enter the Paper Shoot Camera – a pocket-sized revelation.
After a bit of poking around, I pulled the trigger on the camera (with case), batteries, and the expansion card that lets me take short video clips and stop motions. The damage? A steal at $150 after the secret handshake discount. Pro tip: load up your cart, enter your information, and close out of the tab. Within a day or two you’ll receive a magical discount code.
This gizmo is pretty cool and I’m very impressed with its capabilities and that it’s smaller and lighter than my phone. It stays at f/2.2 and adjusts the shutter speed and iso (all the way up to 3200) to court the light. The images are a respectable 18 megapixels and the captures have a funky old-school point-and-shoot film vibe to them. Complaints? It only shoots jpg, it takes about 2 seconds from when you push the shutter to when it actually takes the first photo, the view finder doesn’t accurately represent what in the frame, and it fumbles under harsh contrast. All to be expected for the price.
All in all, I’m really digging this little rascal. It’s my accomplice, snapping moments I’d pass on if I had to dig my phone out. Check out the shots below, and drop me a line about your own adventures or if you’ve stumbled upon a better pocket-sized sidekick.
Through the vortex of the lens,
Dustin Doskocil
